Ingredients
Scale
- 1 whole trout (about 1–1.5 lbs), cleaned and scaled
- 1 lemon, thinly sliced
- 2 sprigs fresh dill
- 2 sprigs fresh mint
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- For the dressing:
- 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves, chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh dill, chopped
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the trout: Pat the trout dry with paper towels. Season the cavity and exterior with salt and pepper. Stuff the cavity with lemon slices, dill sprigs, and mint sprigs.
- Steam the trout: Place the trout in a steamer basket. Bring water to a boil in a pot underneath the steamer. Steam for 8-12 minutes, or until the fish is flaky and cooked through. Cooking time will vary depending on the size of the trout.
- Make the dressing: While the fish is steaming, combine the chopped mint, chopped dill, olive oil, lemon juice, honey, minced garlic, and red pepper flakes (if using) in a small bowl. Whisk until well combined.
- Serve: Carefully transfer the steamed trout to a serving platter. Drizzle generously with the mint and dill dressing. Serve immediately.
Notes
- You can use other herbs like parsley or chives in the dressing.
- For a spicier dressing, add more red pepper flakes.
- Serve with a side of steamed vegetables or a light salad.
