Description

This simple strawberry sauce recipe is quick to prepare and perfect for topping desserts. It uses fresh or frozen strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice for a balanced sweet and tart flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound (about 3 cups) fresh or frozen strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Combine strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice in a medium saucepan.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the strawberries soften and release their juices, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Continue to cook for another 5-10 minutes, stirring and mashing some of the strawberries with a spoon, until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.
  4. Remove from heat and let cool slightly before serving.
  5. Serve warm or chilled over pancakes, waffles, ice cream, cheesecake, or yogurt.

Notes

  • For a smoother sauce, you can blend a portion or all of the sauce with an immersion blender or in a regular blender once it has cooled slightly.
  • The sauce will thicken further as it cools.
  • Store leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
