Description
This simple strawberry sauce recipe is quick to prepare and perfect for topping desserts. It uses fresh or frozen strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice for a balanced sweet and tart flavor.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound (about 3 cups) fresh or frozen strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
Instructions
- Combine strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice in a medium saucepan.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the strawberries soften and release their juices, about 5-7 minutes.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Continue to cook for another 5-10 minutes, stirring and mashing some of the strawberries with a spoon, until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly before serving.
- Serve warm or chilled over pancakes, waffles, ice cream, cheesecake, or yogurt.
Notes
- For a smoother sauce, you can blend a portion or all of the sauce with an immersion blender or in a regular blender once it has cooled slightly.
- The sauce will thicken further as it cools.
- Store leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
