Description

These classic shortbread cookies are simple to make and perfect for any occasion. With just a few ingredients, you can create a melt-in-your-mouth treat.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined and a soft dough forms.
  5. Press the dough evenly into an 8×8 inch square baking pan or roll out to 1/2 inch thickness and cut into desired shapes.
  6. Prick the surface of the dough with a fork.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  8. Remove from oven and let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before cutting into squares or desired shapes.
  9. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract with the butter and sugar.
  • You can sprinkle with extra sugar before baking for a sparkling finish.
