Description
A flavorful and aromatic fish masala, perfect for a quick and delicious meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 500g fish fillets (such as cod, tilapia, or salmon)
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to your preference)
- 1/4 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 cup tomato puree
- 1/4 cup water
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro, chopped, for garnish
Instructions
- Pat the fish fillets dry with paper towels. Season with salt.
- Heat oil in a large pan or skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened and translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and grated ginger. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Stir in the ground cumin, ground coriander, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and garam masala. Cook for 30 seconds, stirring constantly, until aromatic.
- Pour in the tomato puree and water. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Gently place the fish fillets into the simmering sauce. Cover the pan and cook for 5-8 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
- Taste and adjust salt if needed.
- Garnish with fresh chopped cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan.
Notes
- For a spicier masala, increase the amount of red chili powder.
- You can use any firm white fish for this recipe.
- Do not overcook the fish, as it can become dry.
- Serve with a squeeze of fresh lime juice for added flavor.
