Description

A flavorful and aromatic fish masala, perfect for a quick and delicious meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500g fish fillets (such as cod, tilapia, or salmon)
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to your preference)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 cup tomato puree
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Pat the fish fillets dry with paper towels. Season with salt.
  2. Heat oil in a large pan or skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened and translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Stir in the ground cumin, ground coriander, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and garam masala. Cook for 30 seconds, stirring constantly, until aromatic.
  5. Pour in the tomato puree and water. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.
  6. Gently place the fish fillets into the simmering sauce. Cover the pan and cook for 5-8 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
  7. Taste and adjust salt if needed.
  8. Garnish with fresh chopped cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan.

Notes

  • For a spicier masala, increase the amount of red chili powder.
  • You can use any firm white fish for this recipe.
  • Do not overcook the fish, as it can become dry.
  • Serve with a squeeze of fresh lime juice for added flavor.
