Description
These classic Spritz cookies are buttery, tender, and perfect for any occasion. They are easy to make and can be customized with various colors and decorations.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Food coloring (optional)
- Sprinkles or decorations (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg yolk and vanilla extract until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
- If desired, divide the dough into separate bowls and mix in food coloring to create different colors.
- Load the dough into a cookie press fitted with your desired disc. Press cookies onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 1 inch between each cookie.
- Decorate with sprinkles, if using.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Remove from oven and transfer cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- Ensure your butter is truly softened for the best texture.
- Do not grease your baking sheets; the cookies need to stick slightly to the pan to hold their shape when pressed.
- If the dough is too stiff, add a teaspoon of milk at a time until it’s workable.
- If the dough is too soft, chill it for 15-30 minutes.
- Spritz cookies are best stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
