Description

These flavorful black bean burgers are a satisfying and healthy alternative to traditional meat burgers. They are easy to make and can be customized with your favorite toppings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (15-ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped bell pepper (any color)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 burger buns
  • Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, avocado, cheese, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mash the black beans with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth but still a bit chunky.
  2. Add the breadcrumbs, chopped onion, bell pepper, minced garlic, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper to the bowl. Mix well to combine.
  3. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and form them into patties.
  4. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  5. Cook the black bean patties for 4-5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and heated through.
  6. Toast the burger buns, if desired.
  7. Assemble the burgers with your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • For a firmer patty, you can refrigerate the mixture for 30 minutes before cooking.
  • These burgers can be grilled as well.
  • Leftover burgers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
