Description
These flavorful black bean burgers are a satisfying and healthy alternative to traditional meat burgers. They are easy to make and can be customized with your favorite toppings.

- 1 (15-ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1/4 cup finely chopped bell pepper (any color)
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 4 burger buns
- Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, avocado, cheese, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mash the black beans with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth but still a bit chunky.
- Add the breadcrumbs, chopped onion, bell pepper, minced garlic, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper to the bowl. Mix well to combine.
- Divide the mixture into four equal portions and form them into patties.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Cook the black bean patties for 4-5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and heated through.
- Toast the burger buns, if desired.
- Assemble the burgers with your favorite toppings.
Notes
- For a firmer patty, you can refrigerate the mixture for 30 minutes before cooking.
- These burgers can be grilled as well.
- Leftover burgers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
